So if i get a skill from a quest and it's absolutely useless to my character a big voice from the sky says, "OH WELL! Try again."?

I really appritiate all the responses.

The only real Farming I can see is searching for unique looking weps. They dont do any more damg, just unique looking.
In this game there will ALWAYS be something for you to do.
EDIT: of course some will farm for gold, dies, crafting material etc....

It's not like it will matter, as you will eventually get all skills for your primary AND secondary class.
*you don't get quest skills that are not for one of your professions btw.

Levelling in other games is just a way to move you into the harder areas. It's not very challenging fighting even level mobs in most games, so the higher the level you are just dictates what kind of areas you can explore.
In this game everyone will be level 20 pretty quickly, and they can balance areas out to be challenging. You can't just say "Oh, this area is tough. I'm gonna grind a few more levels so I can get through here easily"
A lot of games don't have levels, but does that mean they don't have a point to playing them?
If you like pvp, this game is great. You can play against people all the time if you wish, with the only difference to a lot of competitive games is you can head out and find better gear for yourself.
If you like pve, there is an engrossing story and a lot to explore and do - even at 20.
I don't usually pvp much, I'm just not that good at it. Until I played this game I didn't find it that enjoyable either (unless I was playing a FPS) but I can definately see myself doing a lot more pvp here.
Hope this helps, and sorry if I seem a little incoherant at times

Is there anything as far as skills, items, or runes that would fall under the tiers of Common, Rare and Unique?
Btw, if any of you have Team Speak and would rather answer questions like that, just let me know. I have a clan TS server. :-)

Even better, one char can eventually unlock every skill in the game.

I'm unsure if there are unique items, but there are different rarities.
I know there are 'elite' skills. Elite skills you can only use one at a time (your character may know a few, but only one can be in your selected 8)
Runes have 3 different levels - minor, major, and superior. Not sure what the rarity of each is.

What exactly do runes do?
And what skills are consider elite?
I plan on going Ranger/Monk if you want an idea as to what I'm looking at.

So runes are passive and skills are active?
Are gear stats as big of a deal as they are in most other MMOs?

Runes are passive and added to your armor. Skills are a major point in the game, you get access to 150 skills at a time (75 from both professions) but can only use 8. It's like building a magic deck, except deck size is 8 cards (skills) instead of 40.
Gear stats aren't quite as important, but only because the difference in stats isn't as large as most MMO's. Better gear is still better, just not game breakingly so.

farming, basiaclly, is running around collecting items to get more gold.
You "farm" enemies of the loot they drop and sell. Rinse. Repeat. Until you have a desired amount of gold or items.

Are there any bonuses for creating an RP character and levling them the whole way?
|
To answer the original question, yes.
Eventually any RP character can surpass a PVP character if you put sufficient time into him.
PVP characters start with very good equipment, but RP characters can tailor every single piece of equipment to their needs, can carry multiple different armor sets, weapon sets, and other things that can be switched in as needed.
It will take a lot of effort, but eventually your RP character can suprass the stock PVP equipment.

No offense, but what is everyones focus on getting levels. Ulitmately I play these games for fun, unfortunately leveling is a requirement in most games to get to the fun. GW on the other hand realizes that many people want to have fun, and for them a huge leveling curve before being able to take part in the end game is not fun.

Leveling is a reward. You play the game for a bit, gain some experience, then you go up a level and get stronger. Everytime I level a little voice inside of me yells "yay!" it's a good feeling. Grinding is not fun in itself, but getting somewhere after grinding is more satisfying then just getting there for free. It's also a way of letting you know your advancing in the game, that you're actually doing something.
Once you hit the cap you lose all of that, you kill a monster... why? You wont gain anything from it, and is the act of killing a monster in these games actually fun? Not really after you've killed a few thousand. The entire point of RPGs is character advancement and development, that's what seperates them from adventure games.
A better question is why do you need to get to "endgame" to have fun? I can log into AC2 with a level 30 and have loads of fun, same with any other game.
